The study of English is central to the learning and development of all young Australians. It helps create confident communicators, imaginative thinkers and informed citizens. It is through the study of English that individuals learn to analyse, understand, communicate with and build relationships with others and with the world around them. Language plays a central role in human life. It provides a vehicle for communication, a tool for thinking, a means of creativity and a source of pleasure. Teaching English at Beaconsfield PS involves recognising, accepting, valuing and building on students’ existing language competence. Our programs cater for our newly arrived non-English speaking students, who attend our Intensive English Centre (IEC), and those students in a regular educational environment.
